SSR: Interrogator CRF-2

FEATURES

Target Corporation's SSR interrogator RF Test Set offers two significant features not available in other SSR RF Test Sets.

The first of these features is a frequency measurement capability, which incorporates a digital readout display. The frequency measurement is performed in two ways:

1) For CW input signals the input frequency is displayed directly with no adjustment required by the operator.

2) For pulsed inputs an internal CW voltage controlled oscillator is "zero beat" with the pulsed input by means of front panel controls. The output of the CW oscillator is read out on the display.

Additionally, internally generated RF frequencies are measured and displayed. These frequencies are: the internal signal generator output, internal variable frequency marker output, and crystal calibrator output. Input PRF in Hz also can be displayed. All of the above are individually selectable by means of a front panel DISPLAY SELECT switch.

Asecond feature is a VARIABLE FREQUENCY MARKER GENERATOR. This feature takes the place of crystal controlled markers. The TEST Set employs a frequency measurement device so that the variable marker can be set to any frequency desired between 1010-1110 MHz with crystal accuracy and monitored continuously if desired. The results in a much more powerful tool for SSR Receiver testing than fixed crystal markets.

Other features are: automatic level control of the Internal Signal generator in all three modes of operation (CW, SWEEP, PUL), the capability of the test set to perform transmitting and receiving tests on the Interrogator without changing the set up (this is made possible by the inclusion of a SIG GEN IN port that couples the Signal Generator output to the three External Pulse Power Inputs of the demodulator); and the inclusion of an internal coder that generates any SSR code train to allow more independent use of the RF test set. Multiple targets may be generated by using companion union Target Corporation model CPG-6 (Video Test set).

INPUT / OUTPUT SIGNAL CHARACTERISTICS

INPUT: EXTERNAL POWER IN (1-20 mw)
Accepts CW or pulse power inputs in the range of 1 to 20 mw

INPUT: LOW POWER IN
Accepts pulse power inputs from 3.5 to 35 watts at a maximum duty cycle of 1 %

INPUT: MEDIUM POWER IN
Accepts pulse power inputs from 35 to 350 watts at a maximum duty cycle of 1 %

INPUT: HIGH POWER IN
Accepts pulse power inputs from 350 to 3500 watts at a maximum duty cycle of 1 %

INPUT: EXTERNAL CODE/TRIG IN
Accepts input code from Video Test Set or external triggers up to 25 volts in amplitude

OUTPUT: POWER CAL OUT DETECTED VIDEO
Provides measurement of external power inputs. Can also monitor internal Sig. Gen. by connecting SIG GEN OUT to EXTERNAL POWER IN (1 -20 mw)

OUTPUT: TRANSFER OSC OUT
Provides output for "zero beating" transfer oscillator

OUTPUT: HORIZ OSCILLOSCOPE
Sawtooth waveform, synchronized to frequency sweeping of Sig. Gen.

OUTPUT: SIG GEN OUT
Output of Sig. Gen. - controlled by variable attenuator

INPUT: SIG GEN IN
When connected to SIG GEN OUT couples Sig. Gen. to HIGH POWER IN, MEDIUM POWER IN, LOW POWER IN, connectors

OUT: SYNC TRIG OUT
Enables oscilloscope to be synchronized to internal coder
