Target Corporation's Beacon Interrogator Set is a compact, lightweight transmitter receiver set intended primarily for use in Air Traffic Control Radar Beacon Systems with one or more SSR Decoder Groups and Radar Indicators (PPI).
The Interrogator Set normally operates in conjunction with the primary radar at the ground station and provides identification information of any aircraft equipped with an ATC Beacon Transponder. The interrogations are transmitted on a crystal-controlled frequency of 1030 MHz; the transponder replies are received at 1090 MHz, processed into proper video signals and then fed to the indicator site where they are decoded and identified on special display-processing equipment (PPI). In addition to being able to initiate interrogation transmission and process
replies for modes 3/A and C, the CBI-6 can also produce mode B and D interrogations as an optional feature. Operation from an external coder is also available. Normal control of the CBI-6 is from the indicator site by use of the decoder group and/or the interrogator control unit (furnished on special request).
When operated in conjunction with the primary radar the CBI-6 receives system triggers from the radar for synchronization of beacon signals and radar signals. However, the CBI-6 is capable of generating its own self-triggers which enables independent operation from the primary radar.
Slide out chassis and printed circuit boards, spare-card slots and modular power supply enable easy access for servicing.
