The IP-1388/SPA-25F is a 10-inch PPI indicator used for navigation and air control, with the capability of displaying radar information from either conventional shipboard radars or elevation scan (elscan) radars. This unit was designed under U. S. Navy contract N00024-79-C-7060 and Canadian Government contract 2PC2707601.

Utilizing total solid-state design and modularized subassemblies, the IP-1388 is a unit of high reliability and maximum maintainability.

The SPA-25F accepts trigger and azimuth synchro data from the selected radars and converts this data into digital format through the use of modern solid-state circuitry comprised of sophisticated firmware and hardware. Maximum use of state-of-the-art integrated circuit memories and LSI processing is prevalent in the SPA-25F design.

Consistent with the above technology, the SPA-25F uses no gear trains or other similar moving parts with high wear or maintenance requirements. Synchro interface with associated equipments is accomplished through solid-state digital-to-synchro conversions. Range and bearing target data is provided through LED read-outs. This data is also available in synchro format for use by ancilliary equipments (Plotters, etc).

The SPA-25F is designed with the capability of expansion by providing both internal interface for additional assemblies and external interface for off-centering units.
