FEATURES
Transponder Set AN/UPX-28(V) functions as the principal component within a shipboard transponder system providing full AIMS MARK Xll capabilities. It is designed for remote control operation via Control Unit C-6280tP)/APX (or any other suitable remote controller). With the addition of a remote control unit, as well as an antenna system (as typified by the AS-177B/UPX), the AN/UPX-28(V) provides complete transponder system capabilities.
The AN/UPX-28(V) Transponder Set is capable of providing the appropriate shipboard replies to 1030 MHz challenges in Modes 1, 2, 31A, C, and 4. These replies are generated at 1090 MHz at a typical output level of 500W. The receiver has a center frequency of 1030 MHz and a minimum triggering level of -74 dBm. Input jacks are provided on the rear panel of the set for up to six suppression triggers or gates, and a suppression output trigger jack is also provided.
The AN/UPX-2B(V) provides for integration of up to five existing AIMS MARK Xll equipments into a single enclosure. Three of these, the Cryptocomputer Assembly, the Receiver/Transmitter Assembly and the Electronic Gate (Suppression) Assembly provide direct operational functions, the remaining two providing auxiliary functions (see block diagram). A sixth unit consists of the enclosure and related subassemblies, with substantial supporting functions provided by a monitor/test panel.
