Designed in the 80's for service well into the 21st century, the Target Corporation VORTAC is the perfect marriage of sophisticated navigational electronics and computer age data processing techniques. This latest generation of NAVAIDS gives the user troublefree, all channel, all solid state VOR and TACAN systems that can virtually troubleshoot themselves. A Data Acquisition and Processing System, called DAPS, specifically designed for the USAF VORTAC equipment links the internal electronic monitoring and fault diagnostics of the VORTAC to the outside world via a standard display terminal keyboard. This terminal provides both graphic and verbal indications and instructions to the operator allowing quick and easy troubleshooting and repair. It is available on VOR only and TACAN only systems as well.
TACAN System
The Target Corporation TACAN navigational system is a highly reliable easily maintained, rugged, modular, solid state equipment which is truly the latest in TACAN ground beacons. Designed for the United States Air Force, the Target Corporation TACAN is a culmination of Target Corporation's years of experience in designing and manufacturing sophisticated all solid state navigation aids with remote maintenance monitoring capability.
Major TACAN Features:
VOR System
The Target Corporation solid state VOR navigational system is a rugged, highly reliable, modular, all solid state equipment which has been designed to meet the newest United States Air Force VOR requirements. The VOR has full remote maintenance monitor capability and features built-in fault isolation. The system is normally supplied with the Alford Loop Antenna Array. However, a slot antenna can be provided if desirable.
Major VOR Features:
Data Acquisition and Processing System
The Data Acquisition and Processing System (DAPS) is
the communications interface between the navigational
electronics and the outside world and provides the
feature of remote maintenance monitoring. Through video display terminals, the microprocessor controlled DAPS enables both on-site or remotely located operators to monitor, test, control and fault analyze the TACAN and/or VOR systems producing hard-copy data if desired.
The DAPS includes a Facility Central Processor Unit (FCPU) which is the control center and contains software routines to gather system data and fault analysis information, do fault diagnostics, manipulate all data and format results for video display and printing. The FCPU has built in battery back-up and is located in the equipment racks. Two video display input/output terminals (IOTs) provide operator interface to the DAPS. One IOT is located at the site. The other is remotely located with its associated printer and is interfaced to the prime equipment over modem phone links.
Major DAPS Features:
Remote Control Unit
In addition to the comprehensive monitoring and control features
via the IOT the VORTAC is equipped with a Remote Control Unit
(RCU) which allows remote start/ stop of the VOR and/or TACAN
independently Separate indicators displaying the status of the
VOR/TACAN systems are included. The RCU contains an audio link
with VOR voice transmission and VOR/TACAN identification capability.
To further enhance operational ease, the RCU has its own battery
back-up providing control in the event of local power outage.
